What We Do

Life presents challenges. No one should have to approach uncertain times alone. Our therapists can help you or your family by providing an objective voice and a safe, warm environment in which to resolve conflict. Often we are able to provide same day or next-day appointments.

The Broward Center for Counseling is a diverse group of licensed and experienced psychologists and mental health counselors who are committed to helping people live happier and healthier lives. We are a group of dedicated, ethical, compassionate, and hard-working therapists who are devoted to helping people achieve success. We have both male and female therapists who are available for day, evening, and Saturday appointments.

We offer services for Spanish speaking clients as well. Every therapist in our office participates in continuing education to remain aware of advances in the field of psychology and to provide up-to-date quality care. Our clients at Broward Center for Counseling span all ages as our therapists are trained to work with children, teens, adults, and a senior population.

Finding The Right Therapist

Therapy begins by asking for help. Finding a therapist who understands your needs and your situation is important. Psychotherapy can mean so many different things to different people: from understanding and gaining charge of a major emotional or substance abuse problem, to improving a couple or family relationship, to raising children in an environment you feel good about, to knowing yourself better.

The relationship you develop with your therapist is fundamental to personal growth and life change. Therapy which occurs in a warm and friendly environment makes it easier to feel safe and secure. A therapist helps you bridge the way for change and personal growth. Our clients change behaviors and life circumstances by becoming self-aware and empowered to lead more fulfilling lives. Broward Center for Counseling provides individual, couples, family, and group therapy.

As licensed professionals, we are trained to provide services to children, teens, adults, and seniors. If you are looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you’re ready to move in a new direction in your life, we look forward to hearing from you.

Meet Our Therapists

Cynthia Pollans Harris, PH.D

I genuinely enjoy working with people of all ages. Whether I am working with an individual or a couple; a child, a teen, or an adult, my approach to therapy is to understand each individual within the context of their current family and family of origin. My core training involves cognitive and behavioral approaches as well as a family orientation. I view therapy as an active process where I join with my client/patient to evaluate his or her reasons for seeking out therapy intervention and then together we set goals to accomplish changes leading to greater content in life as quickly as possible.

Taking care of life stresses and emotional well-being can lead to improved personal relationships, school or job success, and also better physical health. I love being a therapist and enjoy the opportunity to help others gain an understanding of their life situations and make meaningful changes to better themselves and their lives. Additionally, I do evaluations for gifted school placement as well as disability, immigration, personal injury, and PRN.

Lawrence (Larry) Kreisberg, M.S., L.M.H.C.,N.C.C.

As a psychotherapist for over 40 years, I have assisted many people to work through various emotional conflicts. When I started my practice I worked primarily with children and teenagers. As the years passed and I had two children of my own, I began working mainly with adults, conducting marriage counseling as well as individual psychotherapy. In addition to individual therapy, I also ran two ongoing, open-ended groups for the past thirty years.

As both my wife and son are psychotherapists at the Broward Center for Counseling, we always have a lot to talk about and are constantly learning and sharing new ideas and approaches. For those of you who are dog lovers, my Yellow Lab, Rosie, comes to work with me and offers free hugs and lots of love. It is my belief that everyone can benefit from psychotherapy, especially those who experience anxiety and stress in their daily lives.

Joan Kreisberg, M.S., L.M.H.C.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for over twenty-five years and have worked with a varied population. Although I have worked with children and adolescents, my areas of expertise have been in group, adult, marriage, and relationship therapy. I also work with seniors and the elderly, as I feel there is a great need for therapy for this age group.

I feel I am intuitive, insightful, and have strong compassion for others. Along with my formal education, my ability to relate to and understand people has shown a positive outcome. My office is friendly and warm and is sometimes visited by my husband, son (both of whom are therapists), and my dog Sophie.

Jared Kreisberg, M.S., L.M.H.C.

I am a licensed psychotherapist who works with children, teens, and adults who experience depression, anxiety, and related mood disorders. I also work with children and teens who have behavioral issues.

My main objective is to assist in providing people with increased self-awareness and insight into their current underlying issues. Sessions focus on identifying certain patterns, identifying contributing factors, and offering alternative solutions while challenging you to improve your overall sense of well-being.

Lauren Ringel Capasso, L.M.F.T.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who truly enjoys working with people of all ages. My mission is to help individuals and their families make positive changes in their thoughts, attitude, and behavior to be better prepared for life transitions that can cause anxiety, depression, grief, and other emotional issues. I believe that healthy communication of feelings and needs is essential to happiness.

For adolescents and adults, I specialize in therapy involving cognitive and behavioral approaches and often utilize the family as a great resource. For younger children, I typically utilize play therapy techniques, as well as behavior modification with parent engagement. I assist individuals and families by providing guidance, support, and encouragement while focusing on their strengths and empowering them to find solutions to their problems.

Robin J. Kauffman, Psy.D.

I completed my Doctor of Psychology degree in 1997 and, since then, have been fortunate enough to do what I love every day…counseling. I pride myself on my ability to relate equally well with children, adolescents, and adults. Patients frequently give me feedback that they feel comfortable and at ease in our sessions almost immediately. I appreciate the courage and strength it takes to initiate therapy, and value the relationships I have with my patients.

My approach to therapy tends to be cognitive-behavioral, focusing on how one’s thoughts impact one’s feelings and actions. I also value the importance of looking at how a person’s family of origin and current family has shaped the person. When working with children and adolescents, I believe it is important to incorporate the whole family for true changes to occur. I take a collaborative approach with my patients, helping them to achieve their goals.

Larry Koziol, M.S.W.,L.M.H.C.

I have been in private practice in Plantation for over 30 years. My extensive training and experience have been in treating individuals with symptoms of anxiety and depression. Additionally, I specialize in couples counseling and relationship issues.

Whether I am working with older adolescents or young adults, I assist them with life coaching and questions they have about education and career options. I am a provider for most insurance plans, in addition to working on a fee for service basis.
